Wine of The Week – Catena Malbec 2009
Each week I like to choose a new wine to introduce to our fans. These wines vary by region, by varietal and even by price. I don’t think cost and value are necessarily related. So I like to focus on wines I have experienced on my travels and I think our fans will enjoy trying. salut!

A rich red, with ripe layers of linzer torte, plum pudding and fig paste flavors backed by layers of mesquite, olive paste and grilled herbs. Grippy tannins add weight to the long, vibrant finish. Drink now through 2013. (Oct 15th 2011)

Winemaker’s Notes
Since 1884 when Thomas Hardy Nottage began a 60-year career looking after the vineyards, the passion and dedication of the Nottage family has been a treasured part of Hardys history. As cousins to the Hardys, four generations of Nottages helped build the success of our wines and, to this day, precious vines flourish on the hill that bears their name.
Nottage Hill was released in 1967 to honour and celebrate the contribution of Thomas Hardy Nottage. The first wine was a Cabernet Shiraz sourced from Nottage Hill in McLaren Vale. Nottage Hill wines are at the heartland of Hardys portfolio. Known for their consistency, approachable style and balance, Nottage Hill has become a favourite around the world.
The 2007 Nottage Hill Shiraz was crafted from select parcels from premium vineyards in South Eastern Australia. This excellent example of South Eastern Australian Shiraz is seamless and well integrated with its fine tannins, balanced acidity, generous length and warm, lingering finish.

TASTING NOTE
Of a live red color, this wine shows an intense and complex mix of aromas that combines red and black fruits, sarsaparilla (cassis) and chocolate.
In the mouth you can feel great body, soft, silky with good structure, abundant fruit expression and round tannins. It has a warm long and persistent finish.
